What Do You Think?

I have been following a trial on tv in which a woman has admitted to stoning her 3 sons...two died at the scene but the 3rd one, an infant, survived. However, his injuries are so severe that he will never be able to function well in school, play organized sports, or hold a job.

Why a trial, you ask, if she has pled guilty? It is because she is claiming insanity & says that God told her to kill her sons. Yet, before she committed these heinous acts, she locked her husband in the bedroom and when she had finished killing/maiming her children, she called 911. Doesn't that seem as if she were aware that her actions were wrong?

Personally, I think that for a momma to hurt or kill her children is insane but I also feel that God gets blamed for things he didn't do or say. What do you think? To her credit, she does seem remorseful & cries a lot...nor will she look at the photos of her sons.

Irregardless of the outcome of her trial, I just know that this is a tragedy that never should have happened and so many lives have forever been changed!

Well, I don't know what to say. I am lost for words. This is so sad. It sounds to me that she was doing things very rational...but then again, I don't know her or her story. I just have a really hard time understanding when women do things like that; killing their own children or hurting them. And I really have a hard time too, when they say it was God who told them.

Well, Chi, in the past, before hubby retired and I decided to no longer work outside the home, I worked in a psychiatric office--filled with tons of doctors (medical, psy's, phd's and other specialists)....and I know for a fact by writing documents and filing the records that there IS such a thing as temporary insanity.

So, what she claims is all totally possible.

And the justice system will see it all.

Yes, she did have 'sane' thoughts to dial 911...but the previous act could so possibly have taken while insane. (I've been 'insanely tempermental' at times to the point I have yelled and threw things!!---there IS a fine line between sane and the insane, and it CAN be a fine line that would be nano seconds from doing something regretful or wrong to being the angel-mother too.)

Great blog today. I could discuss this for hours.

Sounds like she might not have been all together with it, but then I'm a cynic, so maybe it's a cover. Poor babies.

PS, hope your back is a bit better.

I can't handle these issues. On the one side I think she is insane but on the other, that doesn't mean she is not guilty... what a terrible thing to happen.

I am lost for words here too. I agree with wystful1.
Thanks for coming and joining us in the party.

UGh... sane or insane... who knows? All I know is this is a HORRIBLE, sad, sad story! I know God did NOT tell her to kill her children -- if she were hearing voices they were not God's! And stoning? How LONG does it take to stone a person to death? Oh this just makes me sick to my stomach. Very tragic... I hope she is put away -- either in a mental institution or jail -- whichever the courts decide! She should NOT be out on the streets.

I am going to look that story up - I would like to see the outcome of that trial.
I am sitting here wondering what madness could drive a mom to do this to her children.

Andrea Yates is back on trial here in Houston. I sure am glad I am not on a jury for one of these, it would be very hard to hear all the details

I wouldn't like to be part of the jury for cases like this. It is really sickening.

I think everyone who commits murder is insane. Even if they take the time to plan it out. Anyone thinking murder is a solution for anything is insane. I prefer people to injure themselves.

Am I cold? Sorry! I don't want lawyers helping to define right vs. wrong.
