Can you name the artists?

In the sentences below are words to 8 songs...can you guess the artist who sang each song? *s*

I'm walking to New Orleans; then I'm leaving on a jet plane because it's a rainy night in Georgia...I think it must be raining all over the world! Maybe I will make reservations at the Hotel California or perhaps visit sweet home, Alabama. When I feel like I am strong enough, I may decide to walk the streets of Bakersfield. I guess it is good that these boots are made for walking!

This N That

They say that wisdom comes with age but age, for me, has brought memory loss. As an example, last night, I was thinking about a song that my momma used to sing to us when we were kids....I'm sure a lot of you will know it & if you do, please fill in the (forgotten) words for me. *s* The song goes like this:

Do, a deer, a female deer
Ra, a drop of golden sun
Mi, a name I call myself
Fa, a long, long way to go
Sol, another name for sun
La, ( a memory loss for me!)
Ti, tea, ( a memory loss for me!)
Do, a deer, a female deer

***********************************

On another note, my beautiful daughter will soon be celebrating a milestone birthday. She called me the other day to ask me what I was going to get her & when I said I hadn't yet thought about her gift, she was aghast! LOL I will, of course, buy her a nice gift but I thought it would be fun to get her a gag gift for such a special birthday...Did I mention memory loss? *grin* I can't seem to come up with any good ideas? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Feeling Small!

Well, I feel about 1-inch tall right now! I noticed that Sheba had fallen behind the back of the couch & was sitting on the window sill so I picked her up with the intention of placing her on the couch but, apparently, I misjudged the distance & she fell off the couch...boom! My poor little Sheba!! I am going to keep a really close eye on her today but she seems to have not injured herself.

Note About Blogrolls

After much thought, I have decided to no longer participate in the following blogrolls: Thursday Thirteen, Wordless Wednesday, and Scavenger Photo Hunt. I found myself spending entirely too much time trying to find interesting photos or lists to post that it stopped being fun for me. However, I have made some wonderful friends & have visited some very interesting blogs which is really nice. *s* I want to thank each of you for your kind comments and I hope you will continue to stop by from time to time.

If you would like your link listed under the title Blogs of Interest in my sidebar, please let me know in your comment. Have a great day!

U. S. Flag Facts

The infamous Mr K bought a new U. S. flag yesterday which now proudly waves in the breeze (did I say breeze...LOL) on my front porch. In the package was a little pamphlet containing facts about the flag so I thought I would share them with you. *s*

The U. S. flag, adopted on June 14, 1777, is the fourth oldest flag in the world. Denmark's flag, adopted in 1219, is the oldest.(smiles at my friends from Denmark)

A flag expert is called a vexillologist.

The blue field on the U. S. flag is called the union.

On Memorial Day, to honor all who died in battle, the flag should be displayed at half-staff until noon only, then raised to the top of the staff for the remainder of the day.

Since 1834, the U. S. flag has flown continuously next to the grave of the Revolutionary War hero, the Marquis de Lafayette, near Paris, France.

June 14 was proclaimed Flag Day by President Woodrow Wilson in 1916. While Flag Day was a popular celebration in scores of communities for many years after Wilson's proclamation, it didn't receive its official Congressional designation until 1949.

What A Day!

As some of you know, several months ago, my (almost)blind chi, Sheba, had a devastating experience. For those of you that don't know, here is the story: My daughter & her family were visiting and the grandchildren left the front door open & out Sheba went. Fortunately, she didn't walk off the porch(as she has done previously) but she got disoriented & when that happens, she goes & sits in the road until I go get her. But I was not outside with her that day.

Some neighbors came along on their 4-wheelers & for sport, they kicked Sheba. When we heard her holler, out we all ran but the culprits had sped off! I was so angry...you cannot imagine!! My daughter decided to call the local sheriff's office to report the incident & see what we could do. She was told that there was nothing they could do about the animal abuse but that it was illegal to operate a 4-wheeler on paved streets/roads and if I saw them again to immediately call to let them know.

Well, day before yesterday here they came on the 4-wheeler so I called the sheriff's office again. They sent an officer to speak to them & tell them they cannot do that legally. Truthfully, I was a wee bit concerned about retaliation (it seems to be a common practice for them) but the only thing they did was to drive by in their jeep with the music blaring...my next door neighbor told me. I didn't hear anything though as I was snoozing so their attempt to upset me failed miserably. LOL

Paint, Chi, Paint!

This morning I started painting my porch swing but I ran out of paint before I finished. I chose to paint it black again. Perhaps if I hadn't gotten quite so much on me, I might have had enough to finish the job. *s* So, I can't take it off my To Do list just yet & I certainly hope it dries well before the rain comes...it really looks cloudy out right now so I am holding my breath.

Drats! 5 minutes after I posted this, it started raining! Well. at least I can breath again so that is a good thing. *s*

Book Review # 1

A Painted House by John Grisham is about life in rural Arkansas as seen through the eyes of a seven year old...there are lots of adventures in this book. I found it to be extremely fascinating...in fact, I stayed up until 3:00 a. m. this morning reading it.

I would definitely recommend it & give it two thumbs up. *s*

Uncanny?

The infamous Mr K & I are worlds apart in our views on most things.
Considering this fact, I find this rather uncanny:

Once, while we were out enjoying the beauty of the mountain, I thought to myself that it would be so nice to have a bouquet of wild flowers...all of a sudden, he pulled over, turned off the car, & got out....a few minutes later, he returned with a bouquet for me. Yesterday, we ran a few errands & he decided he wanted some polish sausages so he ran into the store to get some. I thought it would be really great if I had something sweet to eat. Would you believe that when he returned to the car he had a cup of peanut butter fudge? Yummy!!

Perhaps it isn't so uncanny after all, considering the fact that we have been together since the Ice Age! *s* Has anyone else experienced this?

Blogging Chicks Carnival

Yesterday the Blogging Chicks had quite a Carnival! Sadly, I missed it but I know it was lots of fun & I hope to be able to participate in the next one. To learn more, please click here.

My Inheritance

I inherited my love of living on a mountain from my dad.
Momma gave me her love of music but not her singing talent.
The infamous Mr K says I have inherited my dad's temperament & momma's stubborness.
The need for alone, quiet times came from dad.
Momma gave me her love of beautiful flowers but not her green thumb.
My wacky sense of humor is a combined gift from both parents.
They also both gave me a love of reading...but I haven't used this gift in quite some time. I think it is time to start reading again. *s*

Does anyone have any suggestions for good books to read? I really like all kinds of material as long as it holds my interest but mysteries are probably my favorite.

Scavenger Photo Hunt # 6

This week's theme is Community

This is a view of Cloudland Canyon State Park.

Located on the western edge of Lookout Mountain, this is one of the most scenic parks in the state, offering rugged geology and beautiful vistas. The park straddles a deep gorge cut into the mountain by Sitton Gulch Creek, and elevation differs from 800 to 1,980 feet. The most spectacular view into the canyon is found near the picnic area parking lot; however, additional views can be found along the rim trail.

Once, more than 200 million years ago, a great ocean covered this land. Lookout Mountain was created by either a single earthquake, or more likely, several earthquakes. When it was first formed the entire mountain was still underwater, but slowly the water subsided, until the rim of the canyon was a beach on this ocean. As the great ocean dried Daniel Creek took over and continued eroding the rock.

I Am Soooo Bad!!

This morning hubby came in from work & said, "I think it would be good if you..." and then proceeded to name a list of chores for me. With a smile...I said, "I think it would be good if I did them too but I believe I will just sit right here." He said, " I think you should just sit right there too....see you about 3:30." Of course, he knows that I will eventually get the chores done. *s*

P.S. It is now 11:58 & all chores accomplished...maybe I'm not so bad after all. LOL

The Secret Life Of Pets

In recent years, an increasing amount of research has found that dogs and cats, as well as birds and other animals, are far more intelligent and emotionally astute than previously believed. This new science indicates that we may want to rethink the way we treat our furry and feathered friends.

It was only about a decade ago that scientists were debating whether animals had emotions at all; the golden retriever with the goofy grin on its face isn’t capable of feeling actual “happiness,” said many biologists. Today, for the most part, that debate is finished. Ethologists have begun to accept the once radical notion that animals such as dogs possess subtle mental states, including envy and empathy.

New studies show that cats have also fallen prey to unjust stereotypes; they aren’t the anti-social snobs society has labelled them. In fact, write Janet and Steven Alger in their book Cat Culture: The Social World of a Cat Shelter (Temple University Press), cats can maintain community and form close bonds with humans and with each other. After four years of observing cats in captivity, the Algers found that the felines actively initiated ways of running the shelter, were very social, and weren’t aggressive, despite the shelter’s tight quarters.

Venting & More

A friend gave me a suggestion for a blog post that would have been lots of fun but unfortunately, I was unable to get it to look right so after about 5 attempts, I finally gave up. I really get so frustrated when I can't do something right!
This evening I have the pleasure of dogsitting for my daughter for an indefinite period of time. He is a sweet, loveable Great Pyrenees named Chance...one of her neighbors is abusive to him & has tried to shoot him several times with a BB gun. Such senseless cruelty! They have bought some land & a new home and are hoping to move soon so they can get Chance back. *s*
